Why I Got into Fitness:
I started my exercise journey when I was in middle school. My father got me into exercise because I wanted to
get better at soccer and had weight I needed to lose. After achieving success in losing weight, I became
obsessed with exercise and how it made me feel. In high school, I went on to be a multiple-time state wrestling
champion. I graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA and a full-ride scholarship to the University of Arizona. I
started my fitness career at Bally Total Fitness and was the #1 Training director in the nation of 400 clubs. I
started Prestige Fitness with my best friend Joe in 2008 and, since then, have helped transform thousands of
lives! Every day is a great day and I feel very blessed to call Tucson my home.

My Education:
I was a graduate of the University of Arizona in 2006 with my Bachelors of Science in Physiology and minor in
Chemistry. Go Cats! I have been in the fitness industry for over 15 years.

Community Involvement:
I think being a local business owner, it’s so important to get out in the community and help as much as
possible. Some of the organizations I am a part of include: Ronald McDonald House, Angel Charity for the kids,
Tucson Museum of Arts, Deltas Sorority, and the Salvation Army.

Fun Fact:
I speak fluent Assyrian and beat my middle school teacher in Chess when I was 10.

I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, received my graduate degree in counseling from the University
of Arizona, and stayed in Tucson. I retired from my counseling faculty position at Pima Community College eleven
years ago and really enjoy my second career working at Prestige Fitness.

Why I Got Into Fitness?
I help people become pain-free using specific exercises to correct posture deviations. I learned about these
posture exercises from seeking out help with my own pain. I was in four car accidents over four decades. As a
result, I have stenosis in my cervical and lumbar spine. I have always been very active as a dancer, runner,
weight trainer, and Pilates instructor and tried everything I could think of to eliminate the chronic pain I had
in my hips and neck. Posture Fitness taught me how to correct the deviations that created pain. I now wake up
every morning pain-free.

Education:
I have been certified PAS by Egoscue University for 7 years. I retired from my counseling faculty position at
Pima Community College eleven years ago and really enjoy my second career and my association with Prestige

Why I Got into Fitness:
In junior high I would set myself up with “jogging” plans, dragging half-willing friends or sisters on hilly paths in our town at ridiculously early hours of the morning. Even on family vacations I would bring along my tattered Teen magazines and diligently follow the fitness routines. In high school, I took my first cooking classes and realized how much I loved and appreciated great food. It didn’t take long to realize how food and movement worked together to help me feel my best.

Education:
I completed my bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition but I wanted more. I knew it wasn’t JUST about the food and I continued my education right into nursing school. Even though everyone told me I had to “pay my dues” in the hospital as a new RN, I followed my passion and jumped right into Community Health upon graduation. I spent years in Community Health Centers, Integrative Health Clinic, Women’s Health and I was hooked on prevention-focused health care. Since our system is really set up as “disease-care” it has become increasingly challenging to make a difference within the confines of that scene. So I ventured out!

Certification:
I’m now nationally board certified as a health and wellness coach. In addition to Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, I have completed the Functional Nutrition Lab curriculum so I look at root cause and how the body systems work together for each individual. My approach draws on my experience as an RN and combines Functional Nutrition, Health, Wellness, and Lifestyle Coaching. I’m also an Energy Principles Practitioner and plan to increasingly weave bodywork into a true mind body spirit approach.

Community Involvement:
I’m new in Tucson but I’m seeking opportunities to get involved in the local food scene. Farmers markets, Slow Food movement…

Fun Fact:
In the last 4 years I’ve lived in 4 different states – on the Olympic Peninsula in WA, Austin TX, Santa Fe NM, and now Tucson. I’m planning to settle in here for a while!

Why I Got Into Fitness:
Have competed in various Scottish Heavy Athletic Games, Bodybuilding Master competitions, and recently came in
second in a Fit Mom’s competition. Age is a factor in physical fitness but not a deterrent. I did not get really
fit till I was 50 and I credit hiring a personal trainer with that, which is why I became one.

Factoid:
When I was putting together a workout program for first responders a couple of years ago, I decided to take the
police entrance physical fitness test. I got the highest score in push-ups and sit-ups per minute for females
and beat most of the male candidates, which surprised me. I run like a snail but scored okay on that due to
age.☺

I would say my specialties in training are body shaping, strength building, and working with injuries and weight
loss.

I moved down here to Tucson from Apache Junction, Arizona four years ago for pharmacy school at the U of A. I
didn’t know many people here so aside from working full-time and going to school full-time, I started going to
the rec to work out how I knew how to work out, which was not much. I walked right past the weight room and went
upstairs where I felt more comfortable. A year later, I met a friend who introduced me to weightlifting. I
remember feeling like jello for a while but oddly loved it. Ever since then, I find that being in a gym or
working out in any way is my passion. I love the idea of changing the human body into anything I want. I then
realized that being in the fitness industry is the way I needed to go, not pharmacy.

How I got into fitness?

Like a lot of people out there, I was born in a very sedentary family. We stayed away anything that involved
sweating. For instance, our only outdoor activity was fishing. Seriously. I remember dreading sitting in the
canoe for hours, nonchalantly waiting for something to take the bait, but nothing ever did. I guess my
grandfather took notice, because that same year I got a soccer ball for Christmas, and that’s how it all
started. For reasons I’ll never understand, my little brothers and older sisters looked up to me. So, when I got
into sports, they also developed an interest. I guess sometimes you just have to be the first to set the bars,
and my siblings are my motivator to keep going further, because their success solemnly depends on mime. This is
what I hope to help people achieve as a personal trainer… to be a role model for someone else.

How I Got Into Fitness:
My enjoyment for physical activity started out at an early age. From tag on the playground to participation in
sports teams, I was always moving. Middle school was when I started taking sports more seriously and focused on
swimming and football. Ultimately, when I reached high school, my sole focus was on football. This time is what
sparked my love for weightlifting and coaching. In college, I continued my active lifestyle. After an injury, I
was required to go to physical therapy. Being introduced to how impactful one-on-one training was for me, it
finally clicked on what I wanted to do. That eureka moment was to become a personal trainer. This way, I could

How I Got Into Fitness:
I got into fitness, like most people, through high school by playing multiple sports and being a very active
athlete. Going through life, I ran into numerous complications of depression and severe anxiety. After being
diagnosed, things didn’t get much better; going days on end without having the desire for anything outside basic
human function let alone interaction. After a troubling amount of time, I had someone reach out to me,
concerned, who showed me an entirely new outlook on life and who encouraged and showed me the everlasting
benefits of living a healthy and fulfilling life. At that moment, I started to direct my life towards showing
others the importance and numerous benefits of living a healthy lifestyle just as I was shown. I figured out
early on that my passion and purpose is to be a driving force in the transformations of other people’s lives
just as someone was to mine and I am pursuing a long-lasting career in the health and wellness field.

Why I Got Into Fitness:
Arnold Schwarzenegger once said, “The resistance that you fight physically in the gym and the resistance that
you fight in life can only build a strong character.”
I got into fitness in search of a feeling. Something that was always distant and out of my grasp.

Being healthy represented a version of me that could accomplish anything—someone who is not only confident but
is also physically and mentally strong, consistent, and proud of the effort spent trying to improve. I think
deep down we’re all looking for those things in some way.

“You don’t have to be great to started, but you have to get started to be great” – Les Brown

Knowing only that I knew nothing, I started looking for people who did have some answers. I became a sponge for
knowledge and obsessed with learning more about how to optimize my health. Of course, the real fun came when I
began testing this knowledge in the gym and seeing and feeling real change.

As the years passed, I developed an interest in the field of physical therapy. It was obvious to me that with
this knowledge in my toolkit, I would be able to not only understand injuries but also potentially prevent them.
As I began work in that field, I came to a decision that I would help one million people improve their health
and their lives by the time I turned 35.

“It’s not what we get – But who we become, what we contribute… that’s what gives meaning to our lives.” – Tony
Robbins

Today, I am still relentless in my pursuit to make a difference and, together with Prestige Fitness, I am able
to continue my mission of improving the lives of others.
